Kaleidoscope Viewing Post demonstrations at an artist lecture for 3rd grade classes at Brookside Academy

Workshop at the "Clothesline" exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center as a part of Los Cago's Media Box project at InCUBATE. Participants could arrange objects on the scanner bed to be projected and rendered onto post cards which were mailed to random people around the world.

Los Cago Media Box Media was sent between artists in Chicago and Los Angeles. Artists were asked to add to the contents of the box and pass it to another person.

"Kaleidoscope Viewfinders" with view through lenses, wood and custom lenses

Observations from an Outpost, single channel color video with sound, 5 minute excerpt from an ongoing project.
This piece incorporates video collected while in residence at FLACC Workplace, text from a collaborative writing project with Chicago-based author David Berthy, and audio from travel logs my father kept while stationed overseas in the army.

"Field Recordings: Belgium 06.09" (installation view), looped color video triptych (approx.4 min ea.) projected inside constructed wooden boxes with accompanying 6-channel sound piece of audio field recordings played through speakers inside repurposed lamps.

"Untitled Video Stills", C-Print, 24"x40", stills of field recordings used for video installations. The videos capture subtle actions documented while traveling throughout Belgium while in residence at FLACC Workplace in Genk, Belgium.

"A Break in the Clouds" with untitled Sound Lamp (installation view), 8'x10', wallpaper, conduit, extension cords, electricity. Here I create my own "disguised" sources of electricity with wiring inside aluminum conduit-one functional (left) and one not (right). The conduit and outlets are wrapped in wallpaper to match the background mural. The extension cord runs electrical power to a mutli-channel video/sound installation (see image for The Objects Stare Back)

"The Objects Stare Back", 4-channel color video installation with 9-channel sound piece. Shown in tandem with A Break in the Clouds at Buckham Gallery in Flint, MI. A symphony of natural and machine sounds play through speaker lamps while projection boxes play videos of looped daydreams of clouds, trees, and balloons moving with the wind.

"The Objects Stare Back", detail view (left) This suitcase holds one of the two 5-channel dvd players used to support the sound for the 9-channel audio piece; "Projection Box", detail view (right), 19"x4"x5", wood and custom electronics. Projection boxes play subtle images of video field recordings. Here clouds are pushed slowly through the tips of gently swaying tree tops.

"Untitled Sound Lamp" (right), 20"x20"x5', aluminum, DVD player, speakers, sound, electronics. The 6-foot sound sculpture plays the sound of a dog barking somewhere far off. The base of it holds a 5-channel DVD player that runs a multi-channel video/sound installation (see image of installation view The Objects Stare Back) and a short speaker lamp plays the a high-pitched sound of a brisk wind. "Untitled Light Sculpture" (left), 20"x20"x6', wood, aluminum, speaker, sound, electronics.

These sounds lamp sculptures were shown with the multi-media installation "The Objects Stare Back" in Flint, MI. All of the video and sound used in the installation were recorded while traveling between Chicago and Flint. On the left, a duet of different church bells ring in the distance (one recorded in Chicago and one recorded in Flint). On the right the sculptures play a mixture of sounds- rain pattering on a windshield, in the middle the sounds of a squeaky machine roller, and on the right a train intermittently passes by and by.

"The Eyes Do Not See Things But Images of Things That Mean Other Things", Multi-media installation of collected and reassembled/constructed objects and field recordings. On the far left- an I.V. stand is combined with a log and topped with a brass bicycle bell. Next to it- a cast ceramic base sits a wasp nest and intricately coil of continuous plastic paper. With video and sound.

"Observations #54-189" (installation view),5-channel video and two-channel sound piece incorporating images and sounds recorded while in residence at Frans Masereel Printmaking Center in Kasterlee, Belgium paired with sound and images my father recorded in travel logs he kept while oversees in the Army.

"Media Cart", 8'x20"x20", wood, DVD players, monitors, each monitor plays out of sync the same 5-minute video of a silent swing carnival ride spinning hypnotically. In between the loop, each monitor plays a unique video with sound. Here, the observer is invited to participate in the work by looking through the Kaleidoscope Glasses and adjusting the tripod-base.
